  11.    I am new to MIME and am rather confused by the interoperability issues.
  12.    I understand that some mail gateways in the market can route 
  13. a 'proprietary' mail (e.g., created in CC:Mail) across an SMTP backbone to
  14. another 'proprietary' mail system (e.g. MS Mail). My impression is that
  15. these routed mail can only contain 7-bit data (no audio/video allowed). 
  16. Am I accurate in saying this ?
  17.    Assuming this is so, I would like to know if there is any 
  18. existing (or planned) products which can convert proprietary mails to 
  19. MIME ones (and vice versa) so that multi-media
  20. mail can be exchanged between say, CC:Mail and MS Mail, over
  21. the same SMTP backbone ?
  22.    Any pointers is appreciated. Many thanks.
