- I am considering purchasing a Zyxel U-1496B Internal modem. The primary reason
- for the internal modem being that it comes with an updated UART 16550 chip. My Dell PC
- unfortunately has a soldered 16450 that I cannot easily replace. I would like to hear
- from people who have tried the internal version of modem. In particular, will it easily talk
- to a US Robotics Courier v32.bis (because that's what we have at the host end at IBM). Also,
- to avoid conflicts between the 16450 on the motherboard and the 165550 on the modem, is it
- sufficient to simply change the COM port jumpers? Finally, has anyone tried the Zyxel with the
- communication package ProComm Plus for Windows?
-
- The best price I can find for the Zyxel is $319. Is this a good price? I am told that for $10
- more I can get voice mail capabilities. How useful is this, considering the modest extra outlay.
-
- Thanks,
