- configure it to answer the phone, right? as in, ATS0=1 ?

- I don't have a Sportster, but I can tell you now that my USR DS (large
- footprint V.32bis w/ square LEDs) answers the modem just fine if I
- configure it to do so (as I have done in the past). I can also tell you
- that I wouldn't trade this modem for anything (except, perhaps, once
- ``V.fast'' is finalized, the new version of the USR DS which will
- include whatever V.fast turns out to be called).
