  12. I just got a UDS v.32 modem without any documentation and am trying to
  13. get it going.  I've managed to connect to one v.32bis modem and do
  14. get the message "connect 9600", but then I get thousands of random
  15. characters back.  To me, that says that the problem is not something
  16. like parity, but instead some modem setting.  On another trial to a different
  17. v.32bis modem, the connection was never made.  The modem stayed in training
  18. mode for 30 seconds and then hung up.  I've tried all 4 factory settings 
  19. (the option shown on the LCD display), and none of them work any better.

  21. This modem really is called model V.32.  It was made the last week of 1987, and
  22. is a large box.  It is revision c.

  24. Does anyone have any suggestions how to proceed?  I'd like to try things like
  25. disabling error checking, but don't know the command.
