- Hi!
-
- I have a modem and a PC. That's it. No cable, no documents, nothing.
- I have access to ftp, so can get hold of shareware/PD. I can't afford
- anything expensive at the moment - probably can't even afford the phone
- bill if I do get it working!
-
- So what I would like to know, sorry if this should be in a FAQ, but
- I can't find one...
-
- Do you need to have the technical specs of a modem to use it - or
- are they all pretty similar things stuck on the end of a serial port.
- If so, will I have to find some kind of device driver particular to this
- modem?
-
- It has a 25 pin D socket on the back. Somebody told me to connect this
- to the 9 pin serial socket on my PC - is this correct? Can someone
- give me a list of the pinouts so that I can make the cable up? (To make
- it will cost me about $2 ... to buy it, I have only seen it in one shop
- and that was $15) Of course, I am not keen to buy a lead only to find out
- that the modem does not work! (That's right, I don't even know if it works.)
-
- So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, will some guru out there send me some advice?
-
- Thanks
- Ross
