  29. such as disk speed, disk fragmentation, disk caching, RAM size and
  30. TSRs loaded.

  33. SUMMARY:

  36.    The fastest archiver and de-archiver were PKZIP 2.04c and its
  37. companion PKUNZIP.  The greatest compression was achieved by ha 0.98
  38. although it was the second slowest (trailed only by "scrnch").
  39.  
  40.  
  41. RESULTS:

  44.    The following four tests were run on a DFI 486/33 EISA with a Fujitsu
  45. 500M drive (disk caching disabled) with 8 Meg of RAM running DOS 5.0.
  46. No TSRs were loaded.  Times are rounded to the nearest second.
  47.  
  48.    Test 1: 42 files, ~2.28 Mbytes, simulates full disk backup
  49.  
  50.    Test 2: 88 files, ~0.71 Mbytes, small ".bas" and ".pas" files
  51.  
  52.    Test 3: 11 files, ~1.05 Mbytes, ASCII word processing output
  53.  
  54.    Test 4: 17 files, ~1.19 Mbytes, various graphics formats
  55.
