  22. In many fields of ecological research ecologists have to work with
  23. both objective and subjective information. Fuzzy logic lets them
  24. combine numerical data and linguistic statements in a unified manner.
  25. A fuzzy logic approach allows to deal with some uncertainty problems
  26. in ecological research, namely uncertainty of ecological data and
  27. uncertainty of expert knowledge. The purpose of this workshop is
  28. to present and to discuss state-of-the-art applications of fuzzy
  29. logic in the field of ecology.

  31.                         Topics of the workshop

  33. All aspects of fuzzy logic related to ecological research,
  34. and particulary applications of fuzzy logic to:
  35.    - Qualitative Modelling
  36.    - Approximate Reasoning Methods
  37.    - Knowledge Representation
  38.    - Expert Systems
  39.    - Clustering
  40.    - Databases
  41. in ecology.

  45. The number of participants is limited to 30. Priority will be given to
  46. participants presenting papers. The workshop participation will be free
  47. of charge.

  49.                     Submission of abstracts

  51. Abstracts of paper (max. 1 page) should be sent to Dr. A. Salski not later
  52. than March 31, 1993. Reports on work in progress are welcome.

  54.                         Proceedings
  55.  
  56. The organizers anticipate the publication of reviewed papers in a special
  57. issue of "Ecological Modelling" (Elsevier) 8-12 months after the workshop.
  58. A booklet of abstracts will be available at the workshop.
