- |If you are driving from Califnordia to Colorado, you might want to do
- |the following:
- |
- | * Drain your radiator and fill it with a 50-50 mixture of water and
- | ethylene glycol, commonly known as "anti-freeze" in those parts of
- | the country where water freezes during certain parts of the year.
- |
- Probably not necessary. Have it checked. All cars come equipped with
- a 50-50 mix. Ethylene glycol not only raises the freezing point
- of water but also raises the boiling point (for those areas of the
- country that normally don't have hard freezes but have a severe
- air conditioning problem. Don't make the mistake of putting pure
- anti-freeze in the radiator. Pure anti-freeze has a *lower* freezing
- point than a 50-50 mix and anti-freeze is expensive.
-
- | * Obtain an implement for scraping ice off of your windshield (I kid
- | you not! My sister went to school in Texas, and when it snowed for
- | the first time in umpteen years, she whipped out her handy window
- | scraper, and none of the Texans knew what it was!)
-
- Do this for sure and fill the windshield cleaner reservoir.
- |
- | * If you get lost driving around the Denver Metro area, remember that
- | the mountains are always WEST.
-
- And the mountains can almost always be seen unless it's snowing.
- |
- | * The best 24-hour eateries in the Denver Metro Area are the IHoP's,
- | or "International House of Pancakes".
- |
- Only if you have a large family.
-
- | * Our Museum of Natural History is really cool. The first thing you
- | see when you walk in the front door is a T. Rex skeleton looming over
- | the entrance, posed in mid-pounce. Right now, they have some IMMENSE
- | Aztec stone carvings as part of a special show.
- |
- And the IMAX is great but the planetarium hurts.
-
- |And most important of all:
- |
- | * Don't move to Colorado; just spend some money here. We don't want
- | people like you moving in and driving the housing prices (further)
- | up.
-
- Too late. Everyone who left Colorado are now back here. Apartment
- rentals in some areas of the city are already rising.
-
- Spend some time to determine what the weather will like on your
- route. Driving in the mountains while it is snowing is very
- tricky for someone who is not used to it. I'd advise the southern
- route through New Mexico. Watch it on Raton pass and the
- Palmer ridge north of Colorado Springs.
-
- We had a very snowy and cold November and December but lately it's
- been warm but windy. By late March the serious threat of ice
- will be gone.
