  37. I have never read or heard that a person is obligated to give out their
  38. phone number when making store purchases with a credit card or a
  39. personal check.  I have never been asked for a phone number when making
  40. a credit purchase.  I have been asked for my phone number when purchasing
  41. by check, but so far none of the cashiers have complained when my
  42. response has been, "I'm sorry, but I don't have a phone."  They can
  43. ask to see a major credit card, a driver's license and/or a check
  44. guarantee card.  I don't think they need my home phone number on top
  45. of all that.
