  15. Yes.  It does.  Indeed, in many, if not all, parts of the world,
  16. animals and habitats have been destroyed to make room for agriculture.

  18. In a sense, the destruction of habitat comes closer to "genocide" than
  19. hunting!  To extend this, settlement of land in any form destroys the
  20. habitat of animals and makes it more difficult for them to survive.   I
  21. certainly haven't seen any herds buffalo roaming in Toronto.

  23. If we turn our attention from food to clothing, it can be argued that
  24. the avoidance of animal skins is not necessarily a good thing.  If you
  25. didn't kill an animal for its skin, you killed it by putting up a
  26. polymer factory which crowded-out the animal, ruined its natural
  27. habitat, poisoned its water, etc., etc.

  29. Do you use metal in any form?  Forks?  Computers?  Strip mining is
  30. *devastating* to the environment.

  32. Do you use electric power?  Nuclear power may have long-term
  33. ramifications we don't yet understand.  Hydroelectric power is also
  34. devastating to habitats.

  36. In the end, living things *compete*.  They compete for food, space,
  37. water, air, and any other resource required for life.  Ultimately,
  38. the question is:
  39.      Do you wish to compete?  (i.e.: Do you wish to live?)
  40.  
  41. Pretty easy choice.  After all, even dumb animals have an instinct
  42. for survival...
