- Oh I don't know, I've seen quite a bit here about the EXT. ;-)
-
- And to be only slightly less facetious, that's what the group is all
- about - the greatest machines on earth . . . SNOWMOBILES!

-
- To each his own. I've never been all that crazy about Yamaha sleds myself,
- but that's part of what makes it such a great sport!

-
- Yes, Deere made good sleds, for their time - but there's no way you can compare
- a Trailfire to a current Indy or EXT. And if I had to ride a sled from that
- era (which I *did* until this year), I'd take a Blizzard or an El Tigre or
- a TXL over a Trailfire.

-
- Big Indy-bias here, no doubt, but *too* *slow*???!?!??? Too slow? Indy's?
- Compared to what, an F16?
-
- Over the rough trails that are typical here in the midwest, the Indy and the
- EXT are clearly, yes, *clearly*, the best sleds for hard trail riding. A
- good rider on one of these two sleds is capable of riding at speeds I would
- never have believed possible if I hadn't done it myself! (BTW, John! The
- feeling is back in my left hand and the limp is barely noticable now! ;-)
-
- If I were going to choose the "best all-around sled", I'd use catagories like:
-
- lake racing, trail riding (family cruising), trail riding (extreme!), hill
- climbing, powder busting.
-
- And my choices for each catagory would be:
-
- lake racing: Thundercat
- family cruising: Indy 500 or Pantera
- extreme trail riding: EXT Special ;-)
- hill climbing: Don't know
- powder busting: what's powder?
-
- Then there's stuff like durability, fuel mileage, cost, midrange power, etc.
- And the always-controversial, subjective catagory - styling.
-
- So I think it's safe to say you could argue forever about "best all-around sled"
- and not find a consensus.
-
- Your choice is the Phaser. Fine, mine (for now) is the EXT Special. A whole
- slew of others here would choose one version or another of the Indy. The
- XCR would probably be chosen most.
-
- But statistically speaking, we're too small a sample. What we need is two
- or three hundred more snowmobilers on the net! Then we'd have discussions about
- just about everything, and enough fans of each brand that there'd be calls for
- splitting the group into alt.snowmobiles.polaris, alt.snowmobiles.arctic.cat,
- etc. Who knows, maybe we'd even have a flame-fest or two! ;-)
-
- But I've never had a problem discussing other sleds here - most everybody here
- has been riding long enough to have a broad range of brand experience, and most
- are willing to discuss the pros and cons of each.
-
- So tell us why you think the Phaser is the best!
