- A close relative of mine is alcoholic. He found recovery when the rest
- of the family focused on how they had been affected and got involved w/
- Alanon/ACoA. Somehow that one thing seems to change the overall dynamic
- of the situation. Berating him, hiding the bottles, encouraging him,
- confronting with the cold hard truth, pleading/begging, weeping,
- raging..all of these "tactics" failed miserably. Yet when the
- rest of the family began to "Live and Let Live", things started to
- happen which eventually culminated with the alcoholic seeking recovery
- via AA and later going through a treatment program.

- Alcoholism is a FAMILY disease. Where there is an alcoholic, there
- are several people who have been badly affected by alcoholism
- (family, friends, coworkers). To simply focus on what HE needs to do is
- a misnomer. If someone loves an alcoholic, I feel the best thing they
- can do is find out about recovery for THEMSELVES. Sometimes, the
- recovery ripples out and pierces the fog-veil of even the active
- alcoholic.
