-
- Wrong.
- Well, BK does use nukers and has for years, but it's getting hard to find
- a McD's in this area which doesn't use them just as much.
-
- McDonald's has invented a euphemistic language to cover up the fact that
- these are actually high-powered microwaves. They call them Q-ing ovens.
- The Q, of course, stands for Quality, the Quality McDonald's no longer
- cares about.
- More damning, nothing has been made public in Canada concerning these
- microwaves, which are supposed to be a step forward. That's why I am on a
- crusade to inform everyone what McDonald's has become.
-
- In my experience, the Q-ing ovens are slower, require more labour, and
- produce inferior product. The burgers that come out of a Q-ing oven are
- dry. Bone dry. They are hotter, but who cares about heat when your bun
- could be up to two hours old and your meat could be up to twenty-five
- minutes old? Even ordering a grill will not give you the fresh food
- McDonald's used to pride itself on serving.
- Even the cinnamon rolls, which used to be cooked in the Pizza ovens, are
- now irradiated in the Q-ing oven.
-
- I have no idea why McDonald's has done this. None whatsoever. They used to
- sell themselves on fresh food. Now they have emulated Burger King. Up here
- in Canada, nobody goes to Burger King because everyone knows what
- microwaves do to their food. So I figure if enough people find out about
- the "Q-ing ovens", they will start to avoid McDonald's as well. As far as
- I know, that leaves three choices in Canada: Wendy's, which guarantees
- your food in thirty seconds (their food is made fresh, too, one order at a
- time); Harvey's, which does quite well for itself because of its
- continuing mandate to serve fresh food, and A&W, which is rather hard to
- find outside shopping malls.
-
- Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. And in the name of progress, to
- boot.
-
- So you know:
-
- Things which are not warmed in a Q-ing oven:
-
- All breakfast product. However, this is deceptive. Breakfast product is
- made from twenty to sixty minutes in advance, depending on the item, and
- kept in a warming cabinet. However, it is not dried in a microwave.
- Hotcakes are the only breakfast product guaranteed to be fresh (They're
- still made on a grill, wonder of wonders).
-
- Pizza. Of course, this is only in Canada and certain markets in the United
- States, as far as I know. And it isn't to everyone's taste.
-
- Salads. Obviously.
-
- Fries. The day they start warming fries is the day I quit and expose it in
- every major newspaper worldwide.
-
- McNuggets. But these are also kept in a warming cabinet for twenty minutes.
-
- All times are accurate unless you happen to eat at a store where the
- managers don't care about how long the food sits. Which is most of them,
- in my experience.
