- Ouch. OK, maybe I didn't quite phrase that just right. I agree, you should
- study, it helps to know the material. I think what I meant to get across was
- this: you will do better if you aren't tense. You can study all night for three
- days, and if you show up for the exam sleepless and tense, your mind will
- freeze and all the studying will go to waste. And, whatever happens, the world
- will keep turning. Perhaps your life will be better if you get a good grade but
- it won't end if you don't. More reasoned advice: start studying a few days in
- advance, and only do two or three hours at a time. That gets you nine hours
- over three days, more sleep, and more good than nine hours of panic the night
- before.
- I've seen people who get too involved with their finals have the most intense,
- crying, hair-tearing breakdowns during finals week. I guess the question we
- should answer is: Is it better to be a somewhat happy and reasonably well-
- balanced person who failed physics (or got a C) or a wrung-out, exhausted, and
- burnt-out person who got a C (or an A if you used C before)? (Of course, it is
- best to be a smiling person who got an A, but we're not looking at her right
- now.)
