- Phone is hinting at a new feature in an upcoming release of ircII,
- which was planned long before "ircIII" came out. This one feature is
- one of a few factors that has kept the post 2.2pre7 versions of ircII
- on the coders' benches for so long.
-
- As both Phone and Avalog have stated, ircIII was a very lame attempt
- by somebody to distribute the combination of ircII and screen, and
- he even had the audacity to claim it as his own original work.
-
- In reality he has only changed one line of source code.
-
- It should be noted that ircIII is also in violation of copyright
- restrictions on both ircII and screen, due to the fact that
- ircII's license does not permit distribution of works modified
- outside of the mainstream (a restriction generally only enforced
- in cases of extreme rudeness, such as "ircIII"), and due to
- the fact that it assigns credit for screen incorrectly, which
- violates screen's licensing restrictions.
-
- I had asked the admins of wuarchive to remove ircIII once before
- on grounds of copyright violation, and they claimed that it had
- been removed. I don't know how it mnaged to end up there again,
- but it would probably be appropriate for the current ircII
- coordinator to make such a request now.
