  16. Well, yeah, but the `loss' is designed to be invisible to the human
  17. eye.

  19. The real problem with JPEGs, as pointed out by another poster, is the
  20. time it takes to decompress and display them.

  22. Perhaps compressed portable bitmaps or GIFs are the way to go after
  23. all.
