- jik@athena.mit.edu (Jonathan I. Kamens):
- }It takes an impressive amount of hubris to propose to replace a mailing list
- }with a newsgroup when the members of that mailing list do not wish it to be
- }replaced and have stated so repeatedly.
-
- I have no problem with hubris, but this suggestion is based solely
- on experience. In particular, I did the exact same thing with alt.irc
- and that has worked out just fine. Of course, Greg Lindahl is still
- pissed off at me about that, but I think I can cope.
-
- By the way, I am a member of the mailing list and I want it replaced
- and have said so repeatedly, so you're wrong on at least one count. As
- for the rest of the members, you know as well as I do that most people
- don't speak up if they have reason to suspect they'll be criticized.
- Posting that you think a mailing list should be taken public when the
- manager of the mailing list has repeatedly said he doesn't want to do
- that, and when said manager has a propensity to respond to disagreement
- with multi-hundred-line talmudic commentaries including every piece of
- mail you've ever sent him... Well, some people might be reluctant to
- do that.
