  14.   I have an application which needs to read mode-2 CD-ROM's. [In fact, they
  15.   are XA disks, but I do not need an 'XA' drive since I will be processing
  16.   all data, including sound, once I have read it from the drive.]

  19.   operation under MSCDEX ?

  21. You need MSCDEX 2.21 in order to do mode 2.  Everyone is in the
  22. process of updating their drivers for Photo CD which needs the mode 2
  23. capability.  Trantor has one that works fine now for their card and
  24. chipset (which are used by NEC and MediaVision in their products).

  26.   In particular, does anyone know if Adaptec's ASPICD.SYS and the CorelSCSI
  27.   drivers support mode 2 access ?

  29.   Also, am I likely to have problems with SCSI CD-ROM drives that wont allow
  30.   the reading of mode-2 data ? As I understand it, you select the blocksize
  31.   you want to read off the drive using a standard SCSI command, and therefore
  32.   all SCSI CD-ROM drives should support mode-2. Or have I got it wrong somewhere

  35. Not all SCSI CD-ROMs support mode 2, only XA-compatible ones.  The old
  36. NEC drives do not (we have a CDR-73 that doesn't).  Most of the
  37. multimedia-compliant drives have it because it came out at the same
  38. time as the multimedia spec.
