- 1) Can I connect it to the PAS 16 sound card. Do I have
- to purchase their kit?
-
- Yes, you can connect to the PAS 16, and yes you need to buy the kit.
- I paid $25 for the kit, it included an internal SCSI cable, an audio
- cable, and the DOS device drivers for the card. I do not have the
- 3401, I have the 3301, but I am certain it is the same for the 3401.
- "Dumb" SCSI controllers like the one on the PAS cards (the Trantor
- chip set) can use a single driver for most SCSI drives. A more high
- end card like the Adaptec often needs a different driver for each
- drive. The driver that came in the kit was all I needed to get my
- Toshiba drive up and running,
-
- 2) Does the 3401 comes with all the necessary drivers and
- cables?
-
- My 3301 came with no cables or drivers.
-
- 3) If I wish to get a SCSI adapter what do you recommend?
- I need it to be Windows-NT compatible and also hopefully
- can add other SCSI device to it next time.
-
- Right now NT does not support anything Trantor (their cards or their
- chip set on PAS cards). I know, because I am running NT. You might
- contact Trantor directly and ask them if they are writing NT drivers.
- At work we bought Adaptec 1542 cards which NT automatically recognises
- during installation, and supports. We do not yet have them working
- under DOS, but I have the EZ-SCSI package on its way to me from
- Adaptec, and this (we hope) will solve our problems.
-
- The PAS 16 can support other SCSI devices, but you must get the
- drivers directly from Trantor. They have hard drive and SCSI tape
- drivers which are not very expensive (less than $50). The performance
- is not incredibly good for fast hard drives, but it is adequate for
- CD-ROM and SCSI tape.
