  11. Interesting - I didn't see the original article of
  12. Proposed Definitions; I came up with this the other
  13. day while reading another "pro-choice" vs "pro-abortion"
  14. labelling thread.  Try this on for size.

  17. Time after time the issue of what to call a 
  18. protagonist from whatever side of the abortion
  19. debate becomes a focal point of a thread.  What
  20. follows is a vague attempt at an FAQ on the
  21. positions...

  23. First off, the basic scale does not really have
  24. "pro-choice" at one end and "pro-life" at the other.

  26. It more falls out like this:

  31. First - the Force end can actually be split into
  32. two - with Choice between them.  This is an example
  33. of the old idea that politics are more circular
  34. than linear - if you follow an idea far enough, you
  35. wind up back to the other side.  So, we have:

  42. The "center" position is occupied by those who believe
  43. that whether or not to have an abortion is none of their
  44. business unless it is for THEM.  They won't necessarily
  45. even tell someone what they personally would do - they just
  46. want to be sure that the woman in question has all possible
  47. options available.

  49. On the left (by my scale above), are those who personally
  50. prefer to have the fetus carried to term; who will try
  51. to convince the woman to carry to term; who believe that
  52. past a certain point abortions should be restricted; and
  53. so on down to the point where you get those who want to
  54. make all abortions illegal.
  55.  
  56. On the right are those who personally would have an
  57. abortion; who will try to convince the woman to have an
  58. abortion; and so on down to people who think that all
  59. BIRTHS should be illegal.  (I'll admit that there are
  60. days when I've read of how humans treat the rest of the
  61. world, including other humans, that I lean towards that
  62. end of the scale...)
