- My Jewish dad and my Lutheran mom have been happily married for over 30 years.
- To them, religion didn't matter ... love and mutual interests did. When they
- got married, the only problems was with my Dad's family, who were put off by
- his marrying a "shicksta" (spelling is probably wrong ... sorry!), Irish no
- less ... oy! Aside from that, there have been no problems.
-
- As far as being bounced around like a ping pong ball, I was given the
- opportunity to choose my faith, without guilt from my parents.
-
- I find that because of selectivity based on religion, I have a hard time
- meeting eligible single people. Roughly 40% of Las Cruces is Hispanic
- Catholic, and many have the attitude that the Virgin de Guadalupe would condemn
- them to a thousand years in Purgatory for even considering dating someone who
- isn't Catholic. Attitudes like that cut down the dating pool signifigantly for
- both parties. However, being selective about religion isn't something to be
- condemned or flamed. I'm sure many mainstream Christians/Jews that consider
- themselves open minded would feel uncomfortable dating someone who is a Moslem,
- Jehova's Witness, Moonie, or Fundamentalist Christian.
