  19.     WASHINGTON -- The U.S. scientist credited with discovering the AIDS
  20. virus and a colleague committed scientific misconduct by publishing
  21. false and misleading statements in scientific papers describing their
  22. groundbreaking work, a government investigation released Wednesday
  23. charged. Based on the conclusion, the report from the Public Health
  24. Service's Office of Research Integrity recommended that Dr. Robert Gallo
  25. and his colleague, Dr. Mikulas Popovic, be supervised for three years to
  26. ensure the accuracy of their work.
