  27.     WASHINGTON -- The U.S. scientist credited with discovering the AIDS
  28. virus and a colleague committed scientific misconduct by publishing
  29. false and misleading statements in scientific papers describing their
  30. groundbreaking work, a government investigation released Wednesday
  31. charged. Based on the conclusion, the report from the Public Health
  32. Service's Office of Research Integrity recommended that Dr. Robert Gallo
  33. and his colleague, Dr. Mikulas Popovic, be supervised for three years to
  34. ensure the accuracy of their work.
