  12. I recently did some research in this area and found Tom Horner's
  13.  work,Jonathan Loved David: Homosexuality in Biblical Times
  14. and L. William Countryman's work,Dirt, Greed, Sex: Sexual Ethics
  15. in the New Testament and Their Implications for Today, Had some insight
  16. into the subject.  From Horner:

  19.  had lived in the shadow of the Philistine culture, which accepted
  20.  homosexuality; when they find themselves in a social context that was
  21.  thoroughly military in theEastern sense; when one of them - who is
  22.  the social superior of the two - publicly makes a display of his
  23.  love; when they meet secretly and kiss each other and shed copious
  24.  tears at parting; when his love for the other surpassed his love
  25.  for women - and all of this is present in the David - Jonathan
  26.  liaison - we have every reason to believe that a homosexual relation-
