  13. Well, Doug and I have been together going on 5 years now, which perhaps
  14. isn't of much note in and of itself: many other here have longer histories
  15. with their partners.

  17. However, we're both into S&M, and there's another level of anti-relationship
  18. myth surrounding folks like us.  As recently as 15 years ago, the
  19. "definitive" text on gay male leather sexuality declared that relationships
  20. between people into S&M could not last, and we should reconcile ourselves
  21. to a series of sexual encounters with semi-anonymous men.  Luckily for me,
  22. I never defer to so-called authority figures (except in bed... (and there,
  23. "deference" may be too mild a term... but I digress)), and I decided to
  24. fight yet another round of "you-can't-do-that".

  26. It was only after creating this relationship thing that I discovered that
  27. I was hardly the first... it was like being a pioneer into an uncharted
  28. area, all alone, and reaching your goal only to find a small but rowdy hoard
  29. of fellow travelers.

  31. The moral is, of course, imagine how you want to live, and live it, whether
  32. you have other people's success stories or not.  Write your own story.
