  26. cross-posts many times, because I had no idea it was happening.  The
  27. only indication is a "Newsgroups:" line that is not at all obvious
  28. once I start a posting.

  30. However, having it brought to my attention a few times did the trick.

  32.    -  Changing the base name from motss to something more
  33.       obviously related to lesbian, gay, and bisexual
  34.       interests.  We've had very full discussions of this issue
  35.       several times in the not too distant past.  From those
  36.       discussions, "gay" alone won't fly.  There's close to
  37.       complete consensus, I think, that we need greater
  38.       inclusiveness than that.  Strictly for economy, lots of
  39.       us say LGB or LGBO to refer to the cohort.  But unless
  40.       you're already familiar with that acronym, it's every bit
  41.       as opaque as motss.  That's why I currently favor
  42.       soc.lesbigay.

  44. I agree.  Lesbigay is an obvious word (well, you might have to think
  45. about it for a couple of seconds) that is inclusive.

  51.       founding message as a kind of charter for soc.motss, the
  52.       major tenet of which, in practical terms, is that our
  53.       sexuality is not open for discussion as something that
  54.       needs to be defended.  Notwithstanding that we can always
  55.       profit from talking about what is or isn't appropriate
  56.       here, it seems to me that at a minimum we can agree that
  57.       who and what we are is not an appropriate debate.  To
  58.       that end, perhaps we should now create and ratify a
  59.       formal charter, and when people post inappropriate things
  60.       here, send it to them with some form of cease and desist
  61.       message.

  63. I think the institution of a charter for soc.motssorwhatever would be
  64. a good thing.  As long as alt.politics.homosexuality remained open for
  65. any subject of conversation.
