- Unfair. Saying that a group of people can't do mathematics is a
- meaningful claim that can be refuted, whereas saying they're scum is
- just a blanket insult, so it's hardly surprising if people are
- offended by it. If I said to a woman "women are scum", I think she'd
- have a right to feel personally offended. On the other hand, if
- someone said to me "men can't look after children" (or pick your
- favourite stereotyped female activity), I could attempt to refute
- the stereotype.
