When I called Shaeffer's opinion a minority opinion, I was not, as you implied (I think) trying to invalidate it -- just to diminish it into a proper context.
Also to widen perspectives a bit. If you didn't consider the two skulls of
COlumbus an appropiate analogy, try this: An Eniglish scholar has finally
proved that Hamlet was not written by SHakespeare, but by another author
of the same name. As for Luke and Matthew modifying Mark: most scholars
I have read concluded that, since they were addressing different communities,
they stresseed different points so as to address different controversies.
FOr example, the later the work, the less the "humanity" of Jesus is
stressed, and the more his transcenence is expressed. By the time you
get to John (abt. 90 AD) Jesus is always super-human at least. -Dickb.-
