- Perhaps more to the point in this "who is affected by AIDS" debate:
- How much research has been done into the behavior and prevalence
- of other diseases in those who claim to have contracted HIV through
- heterosexual contact.
-
- After all, heterosexual contact varies quite a bit, in terms of
- the opportunity for fluid-to-bloodstream contact. Presumably,
- flirting from across the room would carry a rather low risk of
- spreading HIV. A "blood brother" ceremony, in which wounds are
- rubbed together, might have a significant risk.
-
- Could most, if not all, heterosexual transmission of AIDS be
- attributed to anal sex? Or pre-existing genital lesions?
-
- Conversely, can we say that ordinary vaginal intercourse _does_
- have a significant chance of transmitting AIDS? Both ways,
- or only male to female?
-
- For some reason, I have _never_ seen this addressed in any
- press reports of research on the disease.
