  23. I don't think she tried.  When she encountered heavy opposition, she
  24. retreated, and superior British radar allowed the Duke of York to
  25. intercept her.

  30. Good example.  It shows, however, that battlecruisers did indeed have
  31. a chance if the got the drop on the enemy, since what saved the battle
  32. was US numerical superiority.  Had the South Dakota been alone, things
  33. would have looked different.

  35. I would say Hiei is also a good example of battlecruiser
  36. vulnerability, being effectively destroyed by the ships she was
  37. designed to hunt, because she let herself be caught in a close-range
  38. fight.

  44. I think the deck armor was fairly weak.  (But indeed, by WWII

  46. explode must be called a lucky hit.)
