  14. Are lasers used for cataract surgery?  My mom has cataracts 
  15. and the doctor is recommending surgery to remove the lens and
  16. put in an artificial one.  She does not live in the US and was
  17. wondering if they have laser surgery for the procedure
  18. in the US.

  20. If there is such a thing, what are the advantages and disadvantages
  21. over conventional (non-laser) surgery?  What are costs like?

  23. I understand the replacements are silicon lenses.  Is
  24. there a danger in light of the recent discoveries
  25. about silicon?  (My mom is 60).
