- A century or so a fellow by the name of Watts had a nonlinear control problem
- where he was employed to turn a steam valve on and off repeatedly. Being
- naturally lazy, he invented a leverage sysytem for the machine to do it for
- itself. He was then credited for inventing the steam engine. I rather suspect
- he went through an evolution process where he needed at times too much memory
- and too much space. We seem to have compressed those requirments in
- intervening centuries...
