- Why are you so scared of such a feeble weapon like the phone? Did
- your parents beat you with a phone when you were a child? Or is it just
- the thought of having a stranger call you that scares you so much? You
- really should work on overcoming your fears.
-
- Guess what. The airlines can call you anytime they want, whether
- they have caller ID or not. If you use their 800 number, they
- get your phone number - and they always have.
-
- Guess what. I have your name and e-mail address. It's a weapon too.
- And I've got it aimed right at YOU!
-
- Are you going to start complaining about how e-mail and news messages have
- a return address on them next. And start crying about how unfair it is
- that any crazy USENET reader (like me) can start harassing you?
-
- And by posting in sci.electronics, there are now thousands of people that
- have your name and e-mail address. Why are you so worred about one
- company getting your phone number but you don't seem to mind giving your
- e-mail address to thousands of people all around the world?
-
- If you send e-mail to my account I think it's only fair that I know who
- it came from. And if someone calls me on the phone, I think it's only fair
- that I know who called me.
-
- I agree that the phone company is forcing you to do something you don't
- want to do (i.e. give out you phone number), and that's not nice. No one
- likes to be forced to do anything they don't want to do. And many people
- don't like Caller ID just for this reason - not because they don't like
- it - but because they were never given a choice.
-
- But thinking that Caller ID has no use but to make the phone companies
- more money is a bit off base. Get a grip guy. You don't have to like
- it, but you do have to live with it.
