  13. Fiberspar just introduced its Freeskate. this is a fibreglass platform for 
  14. ice and road sailing - so forget skiing as you can now break your bones as 
  15. easily by sailing on ice/asphalt.

  17. I believe they bought out rights to the Freeskate which until last year was 
  18. manufactured by some guy who had more designer than marketing skills. Last year
  19. a friend tried to get buy one. The only way of contacting the designer (i 
  20. forget his name) was to leave a message for him with his mother (as he did not 
  21. have his own phone!). Sorry for rambling on but i can't sail and  my thesis is 
  22. not due for a couple of years. I have to kill time somehow.

  24. The Fiberspar version of the Freeskate is about six feet long. It is priced 
  25. at ~$600 ($400 is what it cost last year) though the price is expected to drop 
  26. later on. Fiberspar is also expected to push to promote ice sailing as a 
  27. one-design class with its Freeskate as the board of choice. 
  28. I am currently building my own freeskate (can't afford the big bucks option). 
  29. I have looked at some other designs and think i have a good handle on the 
  30. dimensions and overall design. I am thinking of using two layers of 3/8" 
  31. Marine Plywood. A carpenter friend will be helping me in ensuring that I 
  32. have enough flexibility and strength.
  33. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has built, or looking to build, 
  34. something similar.

  36. I did try using a toys'r'us cheap skateboard but found it to be kind of
  37. unstable on the road. It probably would not work on ice at all.
