- [Deleted elaboration of how mail order seller effectively substituted
- sold original poster a TR-81 hi8 instead of a TR-71 regular 8mm.]
-
- Consider yourself very lucky, my friend. The TR-81 is a fabulous camcorder.
- It is my favorite to use. (I have owned many, many systems including
- a pro 3-chip docking SVHS. To my knowledge, all that have followed the
- TR-81, like the TR-101 and TR-200 use the 1/3" chip. The 81 uses the
- 1/2" chip. I preferred it over the TR-101 in a side by side demo.
-
- I use it in conjunction with a Steadicam JR. I also use it for lots
- of family and home stuff without the Steadicam. It is a breeze to caryy
- around and comes up to "ready" in 1/3 sec. The hi8 image is excellent
- and it copies well to VHS for distribution to family and friends.
-
- Sony may be discontinuing this model in favor of newer hi8 units. I
- think many 8mm users will actually be in hi8. Compared to SVHS ( a
- highter version of VHS which never caught on with consumers), hi8 has
- wide acceptance. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see some 8mm camcorder
- makers to devote their camcorder lines entirely to hi8 and drop regular
- 8mm.
