- Travel Trailer Review -
- Chateau RV Alpine Lite
-
- This is an evaluation of the Alpine Lite, manufactured by Chateau RV.
- We love it. We were so impressed we bought one.
-
- 15' collapsible. Sides are of aluminum with foam insulation, not canvas.
- Forms an A frame with an 8' ceiling in the center. A double bed/dinette is
- on each lower end.
- Weight (dry) 995 pounds.
- Extremely easy to tow.
-
- Advantages: most practical layout I have ever seen in a small collapsible that
- can be taken off road, more usable space than many trailers 18' to 20' long.
- Sleeps four adults. 18" clearance. Solid sides, erects in under one minute.
- 15 gallon water tank with dual 12 volt/hand water pump, icebox, three burner
- Wedgewood range, 4" cushions, about 40 cubic feet of storage, Dutch door, large
- screened windows where the screens can be opened, as well as the safety glass.
- Good for tall people. Blandex flooring with linoleum over so it is easy to
- clean, 20# propane tank. Unlike most collapsibles, there is no need to move
- the galley, cupboards or tables. All that has to be moved are the four seat
- back cushions have to be tipped over onto the seats. Then fold. There is a
- Porta-Potti storage compartment with a small door that permits easy slide in
- and out access to the toilet. 15 Amp convertor. Extremely wind stable on the
- road. Folded height 59.5". 13" radial tires standard.
-
- Disadvantages: no water heater, shower, or tub. Of course, I don't need one.
- Must slightly lift top to open door in down position.
-
- Base price: about 5300.
-
- Available options: Battery kit onboard; dual propane tanks; furnace; two
- or three way refrigerator; spare tire, cover, and mount kit; air conditioner.
- Some other minor options available.
-

- We brought ours home to Palo Alto from Hemet over El Tejon pass. With our
- 1992 Mazda B2600i four seater pickup, we got 19 mpg in the pass. (I checked
- because I was very curious.) Up I-5 we watched other rigs, including other
- collapsibles, get blown all over the road. We felt only one or two minor
- gusts. The first night we had it, we went up to Lake Piru where it was below
- freezing. We did just fine with the optional furnace. A catalytic heater would
- probably do the job, but if you get one, remember to leave the window open.
