- I don't know if anyone has seen this yet, but I understand
- that the World Artistic Roller Skating Championship, (originally
- televised on the Sports Channel,) is going to be rebroadcast in the
- next week or so. (I think it's the 26th, but it could be the 29th.)
-
- If you are into artistic roller skating, or still have doubts about
- Artistic Roller Skating vs. Ice Skating, try to catch this.
-
- As with most TV coverage, only the top four or five finishers are
- actually shown. However, it's worth watching or tape even if only for the
- men's singles (which is the best of the lot, IMHO). The guys
- who wind up first and second (Heath Medeiros and Jayson Sutcliffe,
- respectively) delivered wonderful performances.
-
- The pairs competition wasn't so hot (IMHO). But the free dance
- was very nice, and is certainly enough to put to rest the myth that roller
- skating is "clumsy" in comparison to ice.
-
- Unfortunately the ladies singles event was pretty bad. The winner
- was okay, and at least skated "clean". The third place finisher (April Dayney)
- fell at least three times (possibly four), and didn't really skate that
- great in between. It was really kind of a sad event.
-
- Nevertheless, it is worth watching (or taping), and clearly shows
- that artistic roller skating can be as exciting and graceful to watch ice
- skating.
