- The HTX-100 can be modified for expanded frequency coverage. The mod
- is in the Artsci "Radio/Tech Mods" book- the most recent volume. The
- radio only has USB and CW. Of course, using the radio on non-ham
- frequencies is illegal. The rig has a 25 watt output out of the box.
- I suppose you can tweak it to get 30 watts, but it may do more harm
- than good. Remember, you need to at least double your RF output
- to have a stronger signal on the other end. (not technically correct,
- only a general rule of thumb)
-
- The Uniden President 2510 can be modified very easily by cutting
- traces to the microprocessor. The Artsci book has the mod also.
- It is all-mode (AM, FM, USB, LSB, CW)
-
- The Uniden President 2600 cannot be modified without replacing the
- microprocessor. A company called Chipswitch in Santa Rosa, CA has
- a replacement chip for it. ($60) It has memories and expanded frequency
- coverage. The modification is quite difficult, and I would not
- recommend it unless you have experience working with radios.
-
- CBC International has lists of CBs that can be modified or not.
- They also have detailed mod plans on a number of different radios.
- They advertise in -QST- and other ham magazines.
-
- It is illegal to use HTX-100s, 2510s or 2600s for transmitting on
- CB or any other non-ham frequency.
