- First, is there some way to become a licensed or certified
- pyrotechnician? I have run into potential problems with using flash powder in
- certain theatres. I am a part-time professional magician and really like to use
- certain flash effects in my performances.
- Also, I have experimented with off-the-shelf flash powder (Newco NPII)
- and am wondering what methods other people use to ignite it. I have used glowing
- filaments, but don't know of a place to get these in any quantity. I have also
- used model rocket igniters, but these can only be used once. I would prefer to
- use a spark-type igniter, but haven't worked out a good circuit for generating
- a decent spark. I also found it amusing (frustrating) that I couldn't get a
- small pile of unwanted flash powder to ignite using a soldering iron. I'm not
- sure how hot the stuff has to get.
- I'd be interested in any info on a course to take for certification, or
- whatever. People in New Castle County won't even allow lit candles onstage, but
- I've gotten away with some flashpots for a while. I don't want to keep pushing
- my luck, though. Any info would be appreciated.
- Thanks in advance,
- -Jason
