- After asking here and eager to get answers I made a brief inquiry
- before Xmas among the companies known to produce chlorinated
- rubber.
-
- Parlon is the trade mark of the company Hercules. The production of
- Parlon has stopped in 1988.
-
- ICI has also produced chlorinated rubber. Their trade mark was
- Alloprene. The production has stopped in 1992.
-
- The only producer still on market in Europe is Bayer. Their trade
- mark is Pergut. The plan is to stop the production within two
- years.
-
- The reason for these numerous stop downs is the Ozone Agreement:
- carbon tetrachloride used in the production of chlorinated rubber
- harms the ozone layer of the Earth. Thus, the production must be
- stopped.
-
- BTW, other trade marks for chlorinated rubber: Alloprene, Detel,
- Duroprene, Parevar, Pergut, Raolin, Tegotan, Tretol.
-
- I think that the Parlon containing formulations should be
- reformulated in order to replace chlorinated rubber by other
- binders and chlorine donors.
