-
- From one of my many books:
-
- Basically, the mackerel tabby has stripes all over with a connecting
- line running down its spine (hence, mackerel); and the classic tabby
- has stripes on its legs, head and tail, but the rest of it looks, as
- one breeder aptly puts it, "like a marble cake in the middle".
-
- And from a TICA pamphlet:
-
- There are four tabby coat patterns: "Mackerel" which has vertical
- stripes running from its back down the sides; "Classic" which has a
- bulls-eye pattern and swirls; "Spotted" and "Ticked".
-
- Torbies [tortoise-shell tabbies] have a tabby pattern with
- tortoiseshell overlay.
