- I've heard stories of karate practitioners who have trained themselves to
- maintain proper distance but pull their punches (for their partner's safety),
- and then find themselves instinctively pulling their punches when they're in a
- real fight. Don't know if it's true or not, but I can see at least the
- possibility of that. Muscle memory can be very fickle, especially when you're
- executing a motion on an instinctive level that you've practiced numerous times
- on a conscious level. Again, I don't know if those stories are real, but I've
- heard them often, including from other karate practitioners.
