- I just wanted to note that I thought Todd Ellner's recent posting
- on Thai Boxing struck me as a model of the kind of posts I'd like
- to see more of 'round here. Calm, rational discussion of various
- aspects of his art; training methods, conditioning, sparring, etc.
- No rancor, no defensiveness, no "my art is better than yours."
- Sounds like Todd is happy with his choices; that's great.
-
- Also, someone in this thread mentioned Benny Urquidez beating
- Thai boxers. I would think this goes to show once again, that
- it is the talent of the individual, not the art, that matters most.
-
- On a somewhat unrelated note:
-
- This long lost memory just popped into my head while writing the
- above. When I was a youth, I was into conjuring. I recall reading
- a book on coin magic. It was discussing how to flip a coin so as
- to get it to come up heads or tails every time. Basically, there
- is no trick to it, just incessant practice until you have total
- control over the action of your arm, wrist, and thumb to control the
- number of revolutions. The author's comment said something like,
- "This is the sort of trick mastered by one-trick men in bars.
- They know no magic, but they have one trick that you couldn't
- do in a lifetime."
-
- The relevance of this to the martial artist is left as an excercise
- for the reader. I'd be interested in your comments.
