- This concerns legal issues in Scotland - hit 'n' or forever haud yer peace.
-
- On a train journey recently a woman - possibly drunk - was causing some hassle.
- She began simply shouting and cursing and making a nusiance of herself.
- She pulled the emergency stop cord at one point, and began throwing
- her shoes (and odd other items of clothing) around.
- She then starting hauling some folks personal belongings off shelves.
-
- At that point, the train was stopped and the police called for.
-
- While stopped, we - the passengers - were left on the train while the
- guard, conductor and driver stood on the platform. When asked about this,
- the guard removed us from the carriage leaving the woman to smash things up.
-
- Noone at any point tried to restrain the woman.
-
- When asked about *that* we were told quite simply that it was illegal.
-
- Does anyone know what the Scottish legal situation really is?
-
- Assuming the woman did not attack anyone, is it really the case that
- we were powerless to intervene?
- What *is* a citizen's arrest? When and how can it be used?
