  14. Okay, here goes again:
  15.     1. There is a notation known as "Labanotation" because a person
  16. named Laban invented/started/pushed it.
  17.     2. There is a small published literature on the topic. (Try your
  18. friendly local university library, or roam the nets for other online
  19. research catalogs, using "Labanotation" and "dance notation".)
  20.     3. There was once a Dance Notation Bureau, I believe in
  21. New York City, who was a source of manuals, literature, etc.  I haven't
  22. the faintest idea if they are still there.
  23.     4. Labanotation looks like geometrical art -- there is a time
  24. component, and the various squiggles apparently record movement/placement
  25. of hands, elbows, knees, ... (Poddon my ignorance; I never took the time
  26. to understand it.)
  27.     Since this has turned into a Posting, I pulled the books on
  28. my shelves: Labanotation: The system of analyzing and recording movement,
  29. by Ann Hutchinson. 3d ed., rev., 1977. New York: Theatre Arts Books (333 Sixth 
  30. Ave., NYC 10014). on p. ii: "Other publications about Labanotation are
  31. available from The Dance Notation Bureau, 19 Union Square West, New
  32. York, NY 10003. The principal centers of Labanotation (Kinetography

  42. The book has a preface by George Balanchine and a Foreword by Rudolf Laban.

  44. The other book(s) I have is  A Dictionary of Kinetography Laban (Labanota-
  45. tion) in 2 volumes, by Albrecht Kunst. Estover, Plymouth (Great Britain):
  46. Macdonald and Evans, 1979. This seems to be an elaboration of the "basic"
  47. notation, for the connoisseur of signification.
