- Methinks this whole discussion ignores context. Both slashing and
- thrusting strikes can be enormously effective when properly used.
- Likewise, each can fail miserably when misapplied.
-
- E.g., when taking sentries, a thrusting strike is generally used.
- Most armed forces are taught to use a thrust through the throat
- just below the voice box. This is generally very effective since
- the shock to the system is so great as to be immediately incapacitating
-
- On the other hand, if one is attacked (perhaps with a knife) one may,
- depending on the exact nature of the attack, choose to respond with
- a slash to an extremity ("de-fanging the snake" ref. Vunak). Each has
- its appropriate application. To categorically rule out *any* tactic
- is, IMNSHO, foolish.
