  19. Isn't it the other way round, the pedals _should_ naturally unscrew in
  20. the direction of pedaling, so that if a pedal-bearing jams solid, it
  21. is going to unscrew rather than break your ankle.  (Well, the
  22. principle comes from fixed-gear racing bikes with tow-clips or bolt-on
  23. shoes...)
