- In a recent article ketchum@cs.montana.edu (Steve White) gave a pretty
- good summary of the current opinions in the Yellowstone area about
- this subjects. BTW Steve, my intent *was* to open the can of worms.:>
- Best way to get spirited discussions . :>
-
- Anyway, I happen to agree with your view, it is a shame we can't have
- our wild areas *and* housing developments too. If any real geniuses in
- the real estate development business ever figures out how to do this
- they will make more money than the gov't can print!
-
- I can appreciate the ranchers view, the article I mentioned answers their
- concerns by saying that animals that prey on livestock are rare, and can
- either be culled, or relocated. I suspect there is some truth to this
- but I have a hard time beleiving its that simple. Predators have to
- survive, and any time they can get an easy meal, (less energy expended)
- they will do that. However, having said that, I also feel we have too
- many ranchers grazing, and over grazing on public land.
-
- So, ok ranchers, flame me, but I've seen deer herds "controlled" simply
- by an overly generous US Forest Svc.
-
- Well, I would also like to here from the wildlife biologists who are
- no doubt listening in. PLEASE lets try to keep this within the context
- of the group. Any animal rights flames should go to t.p.a. :>
-
- I would also like to know if anyone here would like to see the wolf
- population large enough to hunt? Personally, I don't waste ammo on
- anything I won't be eating, or using to survive. But I don't condemn
- others who hunt non edibles. I beleive it is instinctive for humans to
- hunt.
