  18.  Well, my MAC-11 is 1400 according to the book, and when loaded hot
  19. cycles even faster.  It's far too fast to be useful as an SMG.  The Army
  20. supposedly did a study (it's mentioned in Janes, I think) and determined
  21. the optimum rate of fire for an SMG as 350 RPM.  The Thompson ran about
  22. 450 depending on the variant, and was a close as anyone ever got.

  24.  BTW, a MAC sounds nothing like the soundtrack on the idiot box.  If I
  25. could get the rate of fire that slow I'd be thrilled.  It sounds more
  26. like an outboard motor.  Very briefly, anyway.
