- ##This is rather interesting in that I own a Mini-14 and can attest
- ##that it is not exactly accurate, although at 50 feet it seems to

- ##A side question here, just how accurate is the M16 firing .223 at
- ##similar ranges?

- >The M16/AR15 is generally a one holer at 50 feet.. Even my GI issue skinny
- #barrel M16 was easily capable of shooting rings around the best Ruger
- #accuracy-wise. At 25 yards using the sighting in target with a 1" aiming
- #paster all shots can be kept well within the paster. Try that with a Mini14..

- From my experience, in the Marine Corps, the M16, GI issue skinny barrel,
- had no problems keeping in the chest region of a man sized target. This
- is without a rest beside my arm and no scope. Although I never shot my
- mini-14 over that range, I also never had any great problems with it's
- accuracy, but then I bought mine used in '85 or '86, so maybe they
- were better made then.
-
- Overall, I was very disappointed in the feild performance of the M16 and
- found that for large ammo usage the mini-14 served me better ( I had a
- couple 30-round clips to go with my mini-14 ).
